ARVO Special Recognition Award Won By Andrew B. Watson, PhD

The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) have announced that Andrew B. Watson, PhD, has been selected to receive ARVO's Special Recognition Award, which is presented periodically to honor outstanding service to ARVO or the vision research community. The award will be presented to Watson during ARVO's Annual Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, FL, in April 2008.
Watson was selected to receive a Special Recognition Award for his foresight, energy and dedication in launching and editing ARVO's first electronic scientific journal, the Journal of Vision.
Watson is senior scientist for Vision Research at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, CA, and continues to serve as editor-in-chief of the online Journal of Vision, which was launched in January 2001. He has served as editor for five other academic, peer-reviewed journals. He has published over 100 scientific papers on topics such as spatial and temporal sensitivity, motion perception, image quality, and neural models of visual coding and processing. His honors include the Otto Schade Prize in Display Performance and Image Quality from the Society for Information Display and Fellow of the Optical Society of America. His technological applications of vision science, especially to assess and optimize image quality, resulted in five patents.
