RT Image Magazine recently released its roster of the top 25 most influential in the field of radiology naming AIUM Chief Executive Officer, Carmine M. Valente, PhD, CAE, at the number 10 ranking. RT Image Magazine describes its 2007 25 Most Influential recognition as "a roster of radiology's most powerful people, institutions and organizations.

Described as "Ultrasound's advocate", Dr. Valente was singled out for his consistent guidance in the leadership equation that keeps the AIUM at the forefront of the ultrasound community. Dr. Valente comments: "For the past 10 years I have had the honor & privilege of serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the AIUM. As a multidisciplinary medical association of over 7,000 physicians, scientists and sonographers we have had access to the collective knowledge and expertise of our volunteer officers, leaders, dedicated staff, and members to promote and advance the field of medical ultrasound."

The AIUM's activities and outreach include the publication of numerous collaborative guidelines for the performance of ultrasound exams; the continuous evaluation of research on the biological effects of ultrasound; campaigning for the approval of the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the United States; and hosting an annual ultrasound practice forum that brings together current and emerging specialties involved in the use of ultrasound. Dr. Valente has been a key element in facilitating and coordinating these and other important activities that continue to grow the AIUM and interests in the ultrasound arena. During Dr. Valente's tenure, the AIUM was recognized in the 2005 RT Image's "Most Influential" at the number 10 ranking which recognized the organizations 50 years of influence.

Dr. Valente received his public health training from Johns Hopkins University and his doctorate from the University of Maryland. He is certified by the American Society of Association Executives as a Certified Association Executive (CAE). He has been the AIUM's Chief Executive Officer for the past 10 years.

The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine is a multidisciplinary association dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation.
