The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's Scottish conference took place on Saturday 22 September. The presence of several staff from the London Office helped to remind everyone that the Scottish membership is distinctive but very much part of the main organisation.

Philip Butcher, Robert Meadowcroft and Nic Bungay were paying their second visit to Scotland within a week, and for some delegates this was also a second round, after the reception at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 19th. Eva Wall's Information Display brought her into direct contact with supporters north of the border, and Marita Pohlschmidt, in addition to giving a review of our research in the morning, contributed to the breakout session on new developments led by Douglas Wilcox. Representatives of the Duchenne Family Support Group also made the trip north. The programme of speakers and breakout sessions were well received by the delegates.

The afternoon sessions were deliberately varied; sports activities with a national coach and international boccia players, looked after by Stephen McDonald; new developments in the medical & research field, with Drs Douglas Wilcox and Cheryl Longman; independent living and campaigning, led by Nic Bungay; fundraising, chaired by Glenn Oakes, Fundraising Team Manager for the North.

Robert Meadowcroft struck an encouraging note accompanied by pictures from the reception a few days earlier, including Nicola Sturgeon, Deputy first Minister of Scotland and Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing, and Eileen McCallum, well known Scottish actor and MDC supporter.

It was a successful day enjoyed by all who attended.
