On Thursday, October 04, 2007, APhA organized over 200 pharmacists and student pharmacists who gathered in New York City to promote American Pharmacists Month at NBC's Today show, CBS' The Early Show and The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet on FOX. Dressed in white lab coats the participants promoted the American Pharmacists Month theme, Know Your Medicine…Know Your Pharmacist.

Joining APhA President Winnie Landis were many APhA members including student pharmacists from Albany College of Pharmacy, Rutgers University, St. John's University, University of Connecticut, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Wilkes University. In addition, representatives from the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) and CVS Caremark participated in the morning events.

On-air comments from the television hosts recognized the role of pharmacists and encouraged the public to talk to their pharmacists. During the broadcast of CBS's The Early Show, weather anchor Dave Price mentioned, "my grandfather was a pharmacist and I appreciate the role and knowledge of the pharmacist."

The New York morning show excursion is one of many organized events throughout the country to recognize and celebrate American Pharmacists Month. Pictures from the event can be found on http://www.pharmacist.com

About American Pharmacists Month

American Pharmacists Month (APhM) was launched by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) in October 2004. Expanding from the long-standing National Pharmacy Week established in 1925, the month-long observance represents the Association's effort to exponentially increase consumers' understanding of the pharmacist's role in improving medication use and advancing patient care. Johnson & Johnson-Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals and McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals serve as the National Founding Sponsors of American Pharmacists Month.

About the American Pharmacists Association (APhA)

The American Pharmacists Association, founded in 1852 as the American Pharmaceutical Association, represents more than 60,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and others interested in advancing the profession. APhA, dedicated to helping all pharmacists improve medication use and advance patient care, is the first-established and largest association of pharmacists in the United States. APhA members provide care in all practice settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, managed care organizations, hospice settings, and the military.
