Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced the availability of its CD Horizon® Legacy™ Anterior Spinal System in the United States. The CD Horizon Legacy Anterior Spinal System is a recent system that offers an anterior (frontal) fixation solution for complex spinal surgery. This fixation system is designed to assist with stability of the thoracic and lumbar spine when performing modern spinal fusion surgery. This new system may help patients suffering from degenerative disc disease, trauma, tumors, severe curvatures and other degenerative diseases of the spine.

The CD Horizon Legacy Anterior Spinal System consists of a series of vertebral body staples, rods, screws, Crosslink® Plates, and connecting components that allows for distraction to accommodate bone graft.

"The new CD Horizon Legacy Anterior Spinal System affords the surgeon a flexibility not previously available in other spinal systems for the treatment of tumor, trauma and deformity cases," said David G. Schwartz, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with Orthopaedics Indianapolis in Indiana.

The CD Horizon Legacy Anterior Spinal System also features:

- Titanium construction
- Low profile screw design
- Top-loading, top-tightening screws
- Color coding to assist with construct implantation
