Former African heads of state, as well as diplomats and representatives from international organizations, next month are scheduled to meet in Livingstone, Zambia, for a regional meeting on HIV/AIDS, Xinhua News Agency reports. The two-day conference -- which starts Nov. 21 and will be led by former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda -- aims to outline strategies to fight the disease. In a letter of invitation to attendees, Kaunda called for collaboration among stakeholders at the national and regional levels to address the challenges facing Africa, as well as to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS. He added that Africans should work together to curb the spread of the disease.

Some of the invitees include former South African President Nelson Mandela and other former leaders from Botswana, Burundi, Ghana, Malawi, Namibia and Tanzania. Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan also has been invited (Xinhua News Agency, 10/29).
