ISPE, a global association of 25,000 pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals, published a second volume of its Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation, a new, scientific, peer-reviewed journal for the publication of research and review articles.

Released 3 November to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, The Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation (JPI) includes scientific data from a panel of distinguished authors. ISPE distributes the publication quarterly to Members, along with the Society's longtime established technical magazine, Pharmaceutical Engineering.

JPI production is collaboration between ISPE and Springer, a publisher dedicated to high-quality papers emphasizing innovative research and applied technologies within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The October Issue Includes:

- Biopharma Science and Technology Finds a New Home on University Campuses - Capitalizing on Aggregate Data for Gaining Process Understanding Effect of Raw Material, Environmental and Process Conditions on the Dissolution Rate of a Sustained Release Product

- Tablet Content Analysis Using Terahertz Transmission Spectroscopy

- How Will Patents Impact the Commercialization of Stem Cell Therapeutics?

- Comparison of Terahertz Pulse Imaging and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy for Rapid, Non-Destructive Analysis of Tablet Coating Thickness and Uniformity

- The Financial Returns on Investments in Process Analytical Technologies and Lean Manufacturing: Benchmarks and Case Study

- A Quantitative Method for Modeling Blend Composition Distributions in the Presence of Agglomerates

- Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Innovation

First released in September 2006, the journal received encouragement from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition to key FDA leaders and global industry stakeholders, ISPE has the support of Dr. James K. Drennen III, Associate Professor, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, who serves as editor of the Journal.

The Journal's content reflects current global regulatory initiatives - both in the US and internationally - and makes the process of bringing a drug to market less costly and more efficient.

JPI provides a unique forum for an international scientific peer-reviewed publication of research and review articles. It emphasizes new and innovative methods/techniques used by pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals, and serves all aspects of the industry, including new technologies, methods, products, philosophies, associated regulatory issues, manufacturing, control, applied pharmaceutical science, and technology in process and product understanding.

Springer publishes JPI in both print and electronic formats. The total average targeted print distribution is more than 10,000. Additionally, JPI is available on-line at http://www.ISPE.org/jpi to all ISPE Members throughout 2008 as a Member benefit.
