New And Experienced Nurse Authors Honored By MEDSURG Nursing Journal At Annual Convention

MEDSURG Nursing: The Journal of Adult Health, presented four Writer's Awards for excellence in medical-surgical nursing clinical scholarship during the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) 16th Annual Convention, October 24-29, 2007, in Las Vegas, NV.

Linda M. Janelli, EdD, RN, BC, Deborah Stamps, MS, RN, GNP, CNA, BC, and LyLy Delles, BS, RN, received the 2007 MEDSURG Nursing Research for Practice Award for their article, "Physical Restraint Use: A Nursing Perspective," published in the June 2006 issue. Janelli is professor and director of the GNP Program, Nazareth College, Rochester, NY. Stamps is director of nursing, Emergency Services, Women's Neonatal Health and Bed Coordination, and Delles is a nurse manager on the Medical Unit, Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, NY.

Mary L. Hook, MS, APRN, BC, and Shana Winchel, BSN, RN, BC, received the 2007 MEDSURG Nursing Clinical Scholarship/Best Practice Award for their article, "Fall-Related Injuries in Acute Care: Reducing the Risk of Harm," published in the December 2006 issue. Hook is a research associate, Aurora Health Care Center for Nursing Research & Practice, Milwaukee, WI. Winchel is a patient care manager, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI.

Barbara Doherty King, MS, APRN,-BC, received the 2007 Nurse Competence in Aging Award for her article, "Functional Decline in Hospitalized Elders," published in the October 2006 issue. King is a geriatric nurse practitioner and clinical instructor, Madison Area Technical College, Watertown, WI.

Emily McClung, MSN, RN, Daniel H. Grossoehme, BCC, and Ann F. Jacobson, PhD, RN, received the 2007 First-Time Author Award for their article, "Collaborating With Chaplains to Meet Spiritual Needs," published in the June 2006 issue. McClung is a lecturer and Jacobson is an associate professor in the College of Nursing, Kent State University, Kent, OH. Grossoehme is a chaplain, Children's Hospital of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH.

MEDSURG Nursing also sponsors a Cover Photo Contest and presents one award to an AMSN member or friend of medical-surgical nursing for a photograph capturing the spirit of MEDSURG Nursing. This year's winning photograph was submitted by Reina P. Chacon, RN, of San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, Alamosa, CO. Her photo appeared on the cover of the October 2007 MEDSURG Nursing.
