UCLA's Phillips Wins Gerontological Society Of America's 2007 Doris Schwartz Gerontological Nursing Research Award

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) has chosen Linda R. Phillips of the University of California, Los Angeles as the recipient of the 2007 Doris Schwartz Gerontological Nursing Research Award. This distinguished honor, presented by GSA's Clinical Medicine section in collaboration with the John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing, is given to a member of the Society in recognition of outstanding and sustained contribution to geriatric nursing research.

The award presentation will take place at GSA's 60th Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held from November 16th - 20th, 2007 in San Francisco, CA. The actual conferral will occur on Saturday the 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton San Francisco. The convention is organized to foster interdisciplinary interactions among clinical, administrative, and research professionals who specialize in the study of the aging process.

Phillips' contributions to improving the lives of older people have been sustained for 30 years. She has the experience of a number of years as a nurse scientist and was the associate dean for research at the University of Arizona College of Nursing for 15 years. Themes she has addressed include family caregiving for older adults; abuse of family caregivers, including experience of family caregivers; factors that influence the quality of caregiving; instruments to measure caregiving and antecedents, and nursing interventions to improve caregiving and reduce precursors to abuse.
