The American Dental Association (ADA) has bestowed honorary membership on Stephen Hancocks, Editor-in-Chief of the British Dental Journal (BDJ)

The honour, awarded to only a handful of people worldwide in any given year was presented to Stephen at the ADA's recent annual convention in San Francisco. ADA President Kathy Roth said that she was delighted that the nomination had come during her time as president and reflected Stephen's contribution to writing, editing and publishing dentistry around the world.

In thanking the ADA, Stephen Hancocks said:

"It's a privilege to receive honorary membership from the ADA and it's something I will always cherish."

Stephen also paid tribute to colleagues who work with him at the British Dental Association, the BDJ and the FDI, as well as his partner.

Stephen became Editor-in-Chief of the BDJ in 2004. The BDJ has an international reputation for its science and research papers as well as its highly successful CPD programme. He also has overall editorial responsibility for the BDA monthly membership magazine BDA News, its magazine for students Launchpad, Vital for dental care professionals and Evidence Based Dentistry. He is also Editor of the FDI's International Dental Journal.
