AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an employee-owned government and commercial IT solutions provider, announced its participation in the development, design and launch of a new MyPyramid Web application customized for pregnant and nursing women. The specialized site offers expectant and new mothers critical information for maintaining proper nutritional health and wellbeing throughout their pregnancy.
"AMERICAN SYSTEMS is proud to partner with the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion on the design and launch of MyPyramid, a comprehensive site that will demonstrably impact the lives of new and expectant mothers in this country," said William C. Hoover, president and CEO, AMERICAN SYSTEMS. "MyPyramid is yet another example of AMERICAN SYSTEMS' commitment to helping government better serve all citizens through innovative IT services."
AMERICAN SYSTEMS developed the new MyPyramid program in conjunction with the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, Food and Nutrition Service's Women, Infants and Children Program and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program delivers nutrition guidance that is consistent with the department's 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Expectant women and nursing moms can now refer to the site as a resource for nutritional information and to obtain a tailored nutrition plan with the "MyPyramid Plan for Moms" function.
AMERICAN SYSTEMS has collaborated with the USDA for the past five years to develop, upgrade and enhance the complete suite of MyPyramid applications. AMERICAN SYSTEMS hosts many of the Pyramid applications, including the MyPyramid Plan, a public site used to develop personalized nutritional assessments; the specialized MyPyramid for Kids, featuring an interactive on-line game; and the newly released MyPyramid for expectant and new mothers. The MyPyramid Tracker is an online dietary and physical activity assessment tool which was fully developed by AMERICAN SYSTEMS and is currently hosted by National Information Technology Center (NITC).
