In observance of World AIDS Day, Language Line Services, the leading provider of language solutions, has announced the introduction of the "Relating in Red" AIDS awareness dual-handset phone program. As part of this fundraising program for HIV/AIDS awareness, health care providers will be able to order a red version of the popular Language Line® Phone, a unique, quick-dial, dual-handset communication tool used to facilitate three-way communications between medical providers, limited English speaking patients and interpreters. Proceeds from the order of "Relating in Red" phones will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and AIDS Education Global Information System (AEGiS).

"Part of Language Line Services' core mission is to improve access to quality health care, regardless of language," explains Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services' President and Chief Operating Officer. "Our 'red phone' campaign advances this mission while providing HIV/AIDS awareness and information to individuals impacted by language barriers who may not have the level of awareness afforded to others."

Beginning this December, the twentieth anniversary of World AIDS Day, hospitals and other health care organizations will be able to replace their current Language Line Phones with red phones for use in their own HIV/AIDS awareness programs. In addition to the awareness generated by the program, Language Line Services will donate proceeds associated with the ordering of "Relating in Red" phones to three distinguished organizations, as designated by each participating provider.

"Language Line Services has shown a tremendous commitment to the fight to eradicate HIV/AIDS through this effort," says Suzanne Mink, Vice President of Development for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. "The red phone will be both a means of communication for limited English speaking patients and a tool to raise awareness among this at-risk population."

World AIDS Day emerged in December 1988 as the first international health day in recognition of the united global effort required to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS. Today the HIV pandemic remains one of the great health crises facing our planet, with 33 million now estimated to be living with HIV worldwide.

"This year's international theme for World AIDS Day is 'Leadership'," adds Provenzano. "Language Line Services along with our partners at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Broadway Cares, and AEGiS hope to lead by action and example with the "Relating in Red" program, as we strive to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the lives of people living with the virus."
