Since first pioneering a novel approach to the treatment of epilepsy with researchers Drs. H. Houston Merritt and Tracy J. Putnam in 1938, Pfizer has demonstrated its enduring commitment to the epilepsy community, contributing significant resources to research, education and advocacy to ultimately improve the lives of those suffering from this serious disease.

Driving Treatment Advances

Over the years, Pfizer has been a leader in developing new epilepsy treatments with a portfolio of 6 FDA-approved treatments for this common disorder of the nervous system affecting more than 40 million people worldwide - 3 million in the United States alone.1

Furthering Epilepsy Education

Pfizer is committed to providing researchers with resources to advance their education and study areas of interest aimed at improving our understanding of epilepsy, with the goal of ultimately improving patient care. Through the National EpiFellows Foundation, Pfizer has offered research grants as well as a highly regarded annual symposium for approximately 100 fellows conducted by key thought leaders in the field of epilepsy.

Additionally, Pfizer has been a long-standing supporter of the American Epilepsy Society, one of the country's oldest neurological associations dedicated to scientific research and the exchange of clinical information on epilepsy.

Supporting Patients

Pfizer understands the extraordinary challenges people suffering from epilepsy must overcome in order to achieve their goals. Recognizing this, the company is committed to providing scholarships to recognize the many accomplishments of 25 outstanding high school or college students with epilepsy and to encourage their future success. Over the past 13 years, through its Epilepsy Scholars program, Pfizer has given scholarships to more than 100 outstanding students with epilepsy.

In addition to its Epilepsy Scholars commitment, Pfizer has been a long-term supporter of the Epilepsy Foundation, a national voluntary health organization whose mission is to work to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in life experiences; to improve how people with epilepsy are perceived, accepted and valued in society; and to promote research for a cure.
