GE Healthcare IT announced the successful implementation of Centricity Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) at MetroHealth System. As an Ohio-based leader in emergency and critical care, MetroHealth Systems chose GE Healthcare's Centricity LIS solution to further automate paperless workflow, enable real-time patient visibility, and consolidate operations of three major divisions within the facility.
"Our MHS Department of Pathology received first-rate implementation and go-live support from the GE Healthcare team, leading to a successful implementation of the Centricity Laboratory System," said Carol Iaffaldano, LIS Director, MetroHealth Systems. "GE worked directly with our team to utilize the application functionality to the maximum and provided the opportunity for MHS to contribute functionality request input directly to the programmer group - something that is relatively unheard of in the LIS world."
As a result of the implementation, MHS has an automated, paperless foundation for specimen receipt and tracking. Unique to the Centricity LIS installation is a new capability to generate bar code labels at the point of specimen collection and with the ability to scan upon receipt in the laboratory, decreasing the possibility of mislabeled error.
"MHS joins the ranks of numerous facilities that have re-imagined workflow by automating and integrating laboratory processes with Centricity LIS," said Laurent Rotival, General Manager. Enterprise Solutions. "This first implementation of Centricity LIS version 4.0 at MHS creates ways to streamline workflow and efficiency of the entire laboratory department, providing critical lab test information in a timely manner to all areas of the hospital."
