On Saturday 1 December the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign launched its innovative partnership with Heath Lambert Affinity Partnerships. The new venture will see the two organisations working together to provide comprehensive travel cover for individuals living with muscle disease throughout the country.

This new travel insurance service will cater for individuals with muscle disease, their families, friends and carers. In addition to travel cover the scheme will also provide an element of life assurance. Although life assurance cannot be guaranteed for all members, Heath Lambert aims to cover more people as the partnership progresses.

Lyn Inman, Director of Care at the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, commented: "I am delighted that this new partnership will help our members, who often struggle to secure adequate insurance, address this problem. This will be the first time people with muscle disease have access to specialists who know the insurance market and who can provide practical and meaningful advice and solutions.

"Through working together we will be able to identify and campaign against issues such as high premiums and the poor availability of insurance cover for people living with muscle disease."

Heath Lambert has a proven track record in providing tailored insurance and financial solutions and services for charities, their members and supporters, including many of the top UK medical charities.

Diane Caplehorn, account manager for Heath Lambert Affinity Partnerships, explained: "We believe that our success in the medical charities arena is down to our ability to work with both the medical charity and the relevant underwriters to broker insurance products specifically designed to meet the needs of an individual organisation's members. We ensure that we provide underwriters with a more detailed understanding of the medical conditions, thereby obtaining better packages than those available in the open market.

"With the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign partnership we spent time learning about the requirements of people living with muscle disease and so were able to negotiate bespoke products to ensure that the largest possible numbers of applicants are able to secure cover, where traditionally they would find insurance products very difficult or expensive to obtain."

This partnership will also benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign as an organisation as Heath Lambert provides charity insurance services designed to mitigate against the increasing pressures of corporate governance, litigation and changes in UK, European and employment legislation.
