CleveX, a Columbus-based early stage medical device company, announced that it has received the Cleveland Clinic's 2007 P.K. Ranney Foundation New Product Award. The company received the recognition for developing the ExiClip, a dermatological device for skin lesion biopsy, closure and repair with excellent cosmetic results.
"We are very pleased to receive this recognition from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for our flagship product," said CleveX President Gary Smith. "CleveX is proud to be at the forefront of developing new medical innovations that increase clinical efficiency during dermatological surgery and improve cosmetic results for patients. The Ranney Award brings recognition to the value of these innovations."
The ExiClip is a single-step, disposable surgical device that efficiently excises a skin lesion while simultaneously closing and repairing the surgical site. Its design ensures a precise biopsy in significantly shorter time and with consistently better patient outcomes than previously possible. The ExiClip cleared the FDA 510(k) in May 2007. The company is preparing to launch the ExiClip in early 2008.
CleveX develops and markets skin biopsy, closure and repair solutions for dermatology, cosmetic surgery and primary care physicians. CleveX (LLC) started out in 2004 as a joint venture between Cleveland Clinic Foundation (Cleveland, OH) and IDx Medical Design (Cincinnati, OH) to develop and commercialize surgical dermatology and skin repair innovations generated by leading physicians at the Cleveland Clinic. The company incorporated in December 2006 and moved its offices to Columbus, Ohio.
