The American Dental Association (ADA) and the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice (JEBDP) will host two evidence-based dentistry conferences in early May 2008 at the ADA's Chicago Headquarters.

Sponsored by educational grants from Procter and Gamble, the conferences will promote the use of an evidence-based approach to patient treatment and disease prevention, and explore the dissemination of evidence-based information. Attendance at both conferences is limited and registration must be completed by January 20, 2008

First Evidence-Based Dentistry Champion Conference Slated for May 2-3, 2008

The Evidence-Based Dentistry Champion (EBD) Conference, set for May 2-3 at the ADA Chicago Headquarters, will recruit approximately 150 dentists from throughout the United States to become Evidence-Based Dentistry Champions.

A conference objective is to improve the quality, effectiveness, and appropriateness of dental care through the application of the principles and tools associated with EBD. EBD enhances decision-making and keeping up to date.

Dentist "champions" will serve as a resource to their local dental communities by promoting and guiding their colleagues in the application of an evidence-based approach to patient treatment and disease prevention.

Interested dentists can apply online to attend the Champion conference. Selection criteria include residing and practicing in the United States, and direct involvement in patient care.

More information about the EBD Champion Conference and its selection process is available at http://www.ada.org/goto/ebdconf. Attendees will receive 11 continuing education credits for their participation in the program and are eligible for a stipend.

3rd International Conference on Evidence-Based Dentistry Set for May 4, 2008

The 3rd International Conference on Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD): "Managing Dental Health in a Connected World," set for May 4, 2008, will also be held at the ADA's Chicago Headquarters. The conference will explore the dissemination of evidence-based information, emphasizing on-time Clinical Decision Support (CDS) to help improve decision making and enhance oral health.

CDS is the way health care providers will get much of their point-of-care information in the future. It encompasses a variety of tools and interventions, including secondary EB journals, electronic records and charts, computerized alerts and reminders, clinical guidelines, order sets, documentation templates, diagnostic support, and clinical workflow tools. CDS helps to reduce medical errors and makes it easier to keep up to date.

The program is open to dentists, educators, professional society leaders, administrators, researchers, dental hygienists and dental representatives of companies who develop and market new EBD and CDS products and technologies. Limited to 300 individuals, more information and how to apply online is available at the http://www.ada.org/goto/ebdconf. Attendees will receive 6.75 continuing education credits for their participation in the program. Registration deadline is January 20, 2008
