Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc. today announced that they have formed two new publishing partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region. The world's largest society publisher will publish Basic & Applied Pathology and Pacific Focus from 2008.

Basic & Applied Pathology will be published in partnership with six pathology societies from the Asia-Pacific region, while and Pacific Focus is published jointly with the Centre for International Studies at Inha University. The new collaborations will add to the growing number of Korean journals published by Wiley-Blackwell and will serve to raise its profile in the region.

About Basic & Applied Pathology To be published four times a year as an online-only journal, Basic & Applied Pathology is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journal that aims to publish research in pathology with relevance to various settings such as the laboratory, hospital and clinic.

Targeted at pathologists and edited by Professor Jeong-Wook Seo of Seoul National University's College of Medicine, the journal will cover the fields of experimental, anatomical, clinical, molecular, forensic and legal, and toxicological pathology in humans and animals. Each issue will also include one comprehensive review article covering a topical aspect of pathology.

Professor Seo, who is also Director at the Seoul National University Medical Library and editor-in-chief of The Korean Journal of Pathology, said, "We look to Wiley-Blackwell's publishing expertise in adding scientific value to what will be a truly international journal; and for their help in realizing this exciting collaboration between the six societies participating in this publishing partnership".

About Pacific Focus

Pacific Focus, which will be in its 23rd volume in 2008, will be published three times a year. Previously self-published and edited by Professor Euikon Kim from Inha University, the scope of this peer-reviewed journal spans a wide range of research interests and seeks to foster diverse perspectives of research in the major sub-areas of regional political economy - including issues of security, regionalism, environment, migration, civil society, and multi-culturalism. The journal will provide in-depth analyses of current issues and policy alternatives to all policy makers in Asia-Pacific.

Professor Kim added, "We moved to Wiley-Blackwell because of their extensive global sales and marketing networks, focus on citations and online usage, and their excellent reputation as a global publisher of choice. We are confident that they will provide strategic guidance needed to develop the journal's international profile."

Mark Robertson, Publishing Director, Wiley-Blackwell Asia Pacific said, "We are thrilled at these fantastic new collaborations in Korea - Basic & Allied Pathology and Pacific Focus are great journals that focus on different fields of research that are both growing rapidly."

Basic & Applied Pathology will enhance Wiley-Blackwell's already strong medical list, while Pacific Focus will add significant value to the publisher's expanding social sciences and humanities presence in Korea, as well as to its global presence in international relations and political science.

Mr. Robertson added, "The vast international networks and global publishing teams at Wiley-Blackwell will definitely go far in ensuring the journals fulfil their potential and expand their readership beyond that of Asia Pacific."
