Springer is founding a new quarterly journal called Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health. The publication will provide a forum for the enormous output of research in this rapidly developing area. Scheduled for early 2008, the journal will strengthen Springer's expanding environmental and public health publishing portfolio.

Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health is a multidisciplinary journal that will focus on the atmospheric consequences of human activity and its implications for human and ecological health. The journal will publish original research articles and integrative reviews, treating topics from local, regional and global perspectives. The subject areas will include, among others, climate change and air quality, greenhouse gases, acid precipitation, air quality management, risk assessment, atmospheric chemistry, air pollution climatology, clean air technology and forest-fire emissions.

The international, interdisciplinary editorial board with experts in the areas of health, air quality and atmospheric science is headed by Yong S. Chung from the Korean Center for Atmospheric Environment Research in Choongbook, Korea, and Jonathan M. Samet from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, USA.

Tamara Welschot, Senior Publishing Editor, Environmental Sciences, at Springer, said, "There is currently no other journal that focuses so broadly on the health effects of air pollution. This makes Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health unique. Because more and more news is becoming available to the general public about the consequences of air pollution and our changing atmosphere on human health, it is the perfect time to start a journal on this topic."

Fast publication of articles from Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health in Online First™ will provide readers with immediate access to new research results on http://www.springerlink.com/, Springer's online information platform. Cross Reference Linking and Alert services will be fully implemented for the journal. In addition, all potential authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. The first issue will be made available free on SpringerLink.
