Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis is planning a $13.9 million expansion and renovation of its emergency department that will include a new CT Scanner and an additional magnetic resonance imaging machine.

The hospital has filed plans with the state Health Services and Development Agency, which will vote on the project during its February meeting.

New construction to the emergency department would add 20,000 square feet to the current space. 10,000 square feet would be added for clinical space; the other 10,000 would be built for shell space directly above the new clinical space.

Construction would add only four new rooms to the emergency department, but will not change the overall number of licensed beds the hospital has now. Gordon Lintz, the hospital's assistant administrator, says the hospital wanted more privacy for its patients.
