Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, announced today that it has been selected by the Directorate for Science and Technology (S&T Directorate), the primary research and development arm of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to train first responders in bioterrorism detection.
The training shall take place during the 2008 Homeland Security S&T Stakeholders Conference-West on January 14th to 17th, 2008. The conference shall be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. UDTT will train first responders in the use of lateral flow assay tests. The tests will simulate a real world testing scenario to familiarize first responders with results they may encounter in the field.
The S&T Directorate, in partnership with the private sector, national laboratories, universities, and other government agencies (domestic and foreign), helps push the innovation envelope and drive development and the use of high technology in support of homeland security. The Directorate is focusing on enabling its customers -- the DHS components -- and their customers, including Border Patrol agents, Coast Guardsmen, airport baggage screeners, Federal Air Marshals, and state, local, and Federal emergency responders, as well as the many others teamed and committed to the vital mission of securing the Nation.
"We are extremely proud to have been selected to train first responders in such a critical component of counterterrorism. We are honored to have been chosen to work with The Department of Homeland Security in this matter and to train first responders using our equipment to detect Anthrax and other threats," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
UDTT is a supplier of counter terrorism services and technologies to private and government organizations. The Company owns the license to a patented technology developed at NASA's JPL and utilized in UDTT's BSM-2000 used for autonomous monitoring of the air for the presence of airborne bacterial spores such as anthrax. UDTT also supplies detection kits for detection of up to 5 bioterrorism agents. Among the Company's other products are radiation detection systems, educational material & training DVDs, and antimicrobial chemicals.
