A guide to the new PECs has been prepared by the national pharmacy bodies to help community pharmacists apply successfully for membership of a Professional Executive Committee (PEC) of a Primary Care Trust (PCT).
The document was produced in response to the changes in PCTs and the new constitution and formats for PECs, and provides guiding principles, defines roles and functions, looks at governance and accountability along with the new PEC structure and format.
The guide also provides advice on selection of PEC members through person specifications and guidance on interviews and there is a practical section on PEC member competencies, how they are aligned to the NHS leadership competencies and how community pharmacists can translate their experiences to demonstrate these competencies.
Sections of this guide may also be helpful to pharmacists applying to other positions within local NHS structures, for example, membership of practice based commissioning locality committees.
The NPA has published this guide in collaboration with:
- The Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies
- The Company Chemists Association
- The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee
- The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
