The Academy has been in discussions for some months with the Director and Trustees of the Novartis Foundation regarding the future use of the properties at 41 Portland Place. Both parties hope to bring matters to a successful conclusion in the spring.
The Academy, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has been looking for a permanent headquarters for some time and very much welcomes the prospect of moving to Portland Place.
The Novartis Foundation, and its predecessor the Ciba Foundation, has a distinguished history in the promotion of international co-operation and scientific excellence through its programmes and activities. Similarly the Academy promotes leadership, independence and excellence to ensure a rapid application of research to the practice of medicine and to the advancement of health and welfare.
The Academy welcomes the opportunity to build on the scholarly traditions of the Foundation retaining the reputation of 41 Portland Place as a popular and respected hub for scientific exchange and networking.
The independent Academy of Medical Sciences promotes advances in medical science and campaigns to ensure these are translated into benefits for patients. The Academy's Fellows are the United Kingdom's leading medical scientists and scholars from hospitals, academia, industry and the public service.
