Pharmaceutical company Aurobindo Pharma on Thursday announced that it has received a contract worth 700 million Indian rupees, or about $17.8 million, from India's National AIDS Control Organisation, Reuters/Yahoo! Malaysia News reports. Under the contract, Aurobindo will supply NACO with three antiretroviral drugs (Nair, Reuters/Yahoo! Malaysia News, 1/31). According to Iris, the three antiretrovirals have received prequalification from the World Health Organization and FDA (Iris, 2/1). NACO provides access to no-cost first-line antiretrovirals to more than 105,000 HIV-positive people in its 127 antiretroviral clinics. The organization in November 2007 announced that beginning this year, it will provide about 5,000 HIV-positive people with access to second-line antiretrovirals (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 11/26/07).
