Clinical Data, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLDA), a leader in the development of targeted therapeutics and predictive tests from its growing portfolio of proprietary genetic biomarkers, announced today that its Chief Medical Officer, Carol Reed, MD, will participate at the Symposium on "Toxicogenomics and Personalized Medicine: Minimizing Toxicity While Optimizing Treatment" on Monday, February 4, 2008 at The New York Academy of Sciences, located at 7 World Trade Center, 250 Greenwich St. at Barclay St., 40th floor. The Symposium will take place from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
Dr. Reed's presentation, "Pharmacogenetic Tests for Rare SAEs", which starts at 1:50 pm, will focus on the value of individualizing treatment based on a patient's genetics. Numerous examples now show that pharmacogenetic tests can be developed for the prediction of rare but serious adverse events associated with specific therapeutic agents. It is estimated that such serious drug reactions account for 5 to 7 percent of hospital admission in the U.S. and Europe and cost the U.S. society up to 4 billion dollars per year. In response to the growing awareness of the implications of serious adverse drug events and their possible avoidance, the FDA has recently added information about genetic predictors of these events to drug labeling. Dr. Reed's lecture will review the status of pharmacogenetic tests to predict serious adverse drug events and provide examples of currently available tests aimed at bringing personalized medicine to the forefront of patient care. The conference is open to the public. For more information, please visit, http://www.nyas.org/toxicology.
