Springer and the International Society for Cardiovascular Translational Research (ISCTR) are founding a new, quarterly biomedical publication called the Journal of Cardiovascular Translational Research (JCTR). The journal will be officially introduced at the Inaugural Meeting of the International Society for Cardiovascular Translational Research to be held 9 -10 February 2008 in San Diego, CA, USA. The first issue will be published in March 2008.

The Journal of Cardiovascular Translational Research will publish original papers in the areas of cellular therapy, genomics, personalized medicine and devices for the potential treatment of advanced cardiovascular disease. The aim of the journal is to provide outstanding peer-reviewed articles with implications for the current and future practice of clinical cardiovascular medicine. It will provide content in which translational research involving multiple disciplines such as genetics, proteomics, epidemiology and preclinical and clinical research is used interchangeably within a study to advance the understanding of disease or response to treatment. Editors-in-chief Nabil Dib of the University of California at San Diego and Jennifer L. Hall of the University of Minnesota are supported by outstanding executive and editorial boards.

Nabil Dib, MD, MSc, co-editor-in-chief of JCTR, said, "Cardiovascular disease kills some 17 million people every year, which is one-third of all deaths worldwide. Groundbreaking developments in this area between biomedical research and clinical medicine necessitate a new platform for the exchange and dissemination of information. Springer, as an international STM publisher, is in a strong position to launch this new journal."

Aaron Johnson, Editor, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology and Genetics at Springer, said, "Currently there is no journal in this field that provides a forum between 'bench and bedside'. JCTR will fill this gap, presenting a critical overview of advances as they unfold. We are excited at the prospect of working with the ISCTR on this new journal, which can help to shape the future of cardiovascular research."
