From April 2008, disabled people in Kent will have the opportunity to access unique Information Events which will enabled them to understand and challenge discrimination experienced in day-to-day life.

Louise Watch, a professional trainer and qualified consultant states: "The Disability Discrimination Act [DDA] will only become truly effective when more people understand their rights and challenge discrimination. As many as 1 in 3 people in the UK are affected by the DDA and people need to feel confident and informed so that they can recognise and challenge discriminatory practise."

Other events will include the themes of personalising social care and Independent Living plus a range of events for local businesses.

Importantly, each event is funded through a small charge to participants rather than government or charitable funding. By taking a more business like approach, it is felt that disabled people will benefit from increased confidence in the information and advice that is provided. People also appreciate the delivery from someone who personally experiences discrimination and someone whom they can relate to.

The first two half-day events for both disabled people/supporters and businesses are being held on 28 April and 12 June with full details available on the website http://www.ifori.co.uk or by calling 01622 726742. The booking deadline for the first event is 3 April 2008 and people can book either online, by email or telephone. The cost is £22 per person.
