Joe Korner, Director of Communications for The Stroke Association comments:
"Across the UK we have seen a slow but steady decline in stroke mortality rates. However, incidence of stroke is reducing at a much slower rate, particularly with the ageing population. Over 900,000 people are living with the effects of stroke in the UK, around half are left dependent on others for everyday activities.
"The National Stroke Strategy issued at the end of last year set out a blue print for stroke care. We now look to forward its delivery, positioning the UK as best in Europe for tackling stroke".
