The American Health Care Association (AHCA) announced its theme for the 2008 National Nursing Home Week observance: "Love is Ageless." National Nursing Home Week, established by AHCA in 1967, will be celebrated nationwide beginning Mother's Day, May 11, and continuing through May 17, 2008.
National Nursing Home Week is an opportunity for the profession and individual nursing homes to bring into focus its residents who mean so much to the community and their families, as well as caregivers who give so much of themselves to help those less able to do so. AHCA will produce a National Nursing Home Week kit consisting of an event planning guide, promotional products for this observance, a Presidential proclamation and other useful items for the nursing home staff. The planning guide activities are geared to help Activity and Recreational Directors express the theme in various ways and to various audiences.
The American Health Care Association represents nearly 11,000 non-profit and proprietary facilities dedicated to continuous improvement in the delivery of professional and compassionate care provided daily by millions of caring employees to 1.5 million of our nation's frail, elderly and disabled citizens who live in nursing facilities, assisted living residences, subacute centers and homes for persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
