Pharmacists reimbursed for patient care services in a recent Minnesota Medicaid program successfully resolved nearly 800 drug therapy problems, according to recent report on the program.
The Minnesota Medication Therapy Management Care Program involved 34 pharmacists in a demonstration project. The pharmacists treated 259 patients over one year and achieved state benchmark standards in caring for patients with diabetes and heart disease.
"This project is a powerful demonstration of the impact of pharmacist-provided MTM," said David Chen, M.B.A., director of the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Sections and Section of Home, Ambulatory, and Chronic Care. "Pharmacists need to continue to make headway with all payers in the pursuit to be recognized as universal providers of MTM and other patient care services."
