Pathways Hospice Celebrates The Month Of Hearts: 6,000 Families Served In 5 Bay Area Counties
Main Category: Aid / DisastersArticle Date: 15 Feb 2008 - 5:00 PDT
Pathways' heart shaped logo says it all. With love and care in the air, it is natural for Pathways Home Health & Hospice to adopt February as Pathways Month. For 31 years, the not-for-profit home health and hospice agency has served patients and their families in the Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, and parts of Contra Costa Counties.
With offices located in Sunnyvale, Oakland, and South San Francisco, Pathways Home Health & Hospice cared for 6,000 patients and their families with compassion and dignity in the past year. During that same time frame, Pathways volunteers provided 18,391 hours of comfort and care to hospice patients, and bereavement counselors paid a total of 4,105 grief support visits.
Pathways offers four comprehensive patient care programs that include home health services, hospice, private duty and Pathways KIDS. Committed to serving the diverse Bay Area community, Pathways' multi-lingual staff speaks 21 languages.
Pathways Home Health & Hospice also benefits from community support through gifts and donations given through Pathways Hospice Foundation. The foundation helps fund services that would not be offered without community support. These services include family bereavement counseling and support, integrated therapies, caregiver support, comfort care, and gap funding for under and uninsured patients. Two upcoming benefits for the Pathways Foundation are the BRA Mountain Bike Ride scheduled for May 17, 2008 and the 18th Annual One from the Heart Awards Breakfast which will be held October 10, 2008.
Pathways also recruits and trains volunteers to support patients and families during a difficult time. Pathways hospice volunteers make a true difference in someone's life by contributing unique interests, skills, and talents. Volunteer training is ongoing and conveniently scheduled for Saturdays throughout the Bay Area.
Grief support and bereavement remembrance events are also community services provided by Pathways. Upcoming 2008 Evening of Remembrance events will be held in Palo Alto on May 28th, Daly City on June 5th, and in Hayward on June 7th.
