Canadian Diabetes Association President Appointed To Lead Mental Health Commission Of Canada

The Canadian Diabetes Association congratulates Michael Howlett, President and CEO, Canadian Diabetes Association on his appointment to the position of President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Michael Howlett assumes the new position effective February 18, 2008 and will provide interim transitional support to the Association while the Association's Board of Directors advances professional recruitment for the vacancy.

'We take pride in knowing that Michael Howlett's strategic vision will continue to serve Canadians who are most in need,' said Garth Herbert, Chair, Board of Directors, Canadian Diabetes Association. 'Canadians living with diabetes have benefited greatly from Michael's passion and direction. On behalf of the Board of Directors and management, I thank Michael for his dedication and strength of leadership over the past five years. We look forward to working closely with him in the future.'

'The connection between mental illness and diabetes is one that will benefit greatly from further research and increased public awareness, which is why I'm honoured to now take on the responsibility of improving the lives of Canadians impacted by mental illness,' said Michael Howlett. 'While it is always difficult to move on, I know that the high-performance leadership team at the Canadian Diabetes Association will continue to lead the charge to find a cure while serving the needs of Canadians affected by diabetes.'
