Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, announced that The Methodist Hospital System in Houston, one of the country's largest non-profit hospital networks and a U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital, has selected the Picis CareSuite® total perioperative automation (TPA) system to automate the clinical, administrative and financial functions of more than 80 operating rooms across the Methodist network.

The Methodist Hospital System is dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care. To help establish best practices, deliver quality patient care, facilitate regulatory reporting and ensure that all procedures are properly documented and coded, Methodist's clinicians and administrators wanted an OR and anesthesia solution that could fully integrate anesthesia, surgical and administrative data and support the organization's existing Eclipsys system. The Methodist Hospital System selected Picis CareSuite total perioperative product suite including Anesthesia Manager, Preop Manager, PACU Manager, SmarTrack®, Extelligence® OR, Extelligence® Anesthesia and Anesthesia Professional Fee Billing capabilities to meet these needs.

"The needs of an organization like Methodist are very complex, and our stakeholders feel that Picis CareSuite suits our current needs very well. By centralizing data from the OR, anesthesia and PACU into one patient record, we can improve communication and patient care and analyze large volumes of data more readily to establish best practices," said Matt Fink, vice president & interim CIO, The Methodist Hospital System.

"The Methodist Hospital System is a renowned healthcare organization, and we are honored to be selected to automate the surgery department that pioneered so many ground-breaking surgical techniques under Dr. Michael DeBakey and others," said Todd Cozzens, president and CEO of Picis. "Picis total perioperative automation supports the critical flow of information between clinicians and across the department."

CareSuite collects and centralizes diverse clinical and administrative information, creating a seamless flow of data throughout a patient's stay - from preoperative scheduling and evaluation of patients through surgery to documentation of anesthesia care and recovery. Clinicians and administrators are able to provide continuity of care and promote increased efficiency with up-to-date information on individual patients and their progress throughout the perioperative care areas. Beyond the surgical department, Picis will integrate with the hospitals' Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager™ system. Picis' interoperability with Eclipsys Corporation provides bi-directional data sharing, and transfer of discrete data and codes for dynamic reporting and accurate record keeping. Additionally, Methodist has engaged Picis' Business Transformation Services to facilitate physician adoption via expert physician-to-physician on-site training and support.
