"The American Medical Association applauds members of the U.S. Senate for their work to determine the potential links between the environment and breast cancer through the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act of 2007 (S. 579). Greater funding for research to better understand the relationship between breast cancer and our environment can help provide valuable information to potentially reduce the incidence of the disease.
"Breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide and studies estimate that one in eight women in the U.S. has a chance of developing the disease in her lifetime. The new research proposed by this bill holds promise for a better understanding of the causes of breast cancer and the hope for better prevention of the disease."
