PET Scan

posted by DR.SEN on 01 Dec 2009 at 6:32 am

PET scan will monitor the efficacy of ongoing treatment according to the article. Contrary to this it is the functioning component that is being evaluated using the PET. The metabolic functioning STATUS can be assessed which in turn may reflect about the response to treatment.

Best opinion on my prostate cancer

posted by arnold hernandez on 11 Oct 2010 at 12:52 pm

What is recommendable a local cancer treatment center here in Little Rock, AR or a CTCA center in Goodyear, AZ? I had my prostate removed by a well recommended urologist in Lubbock,Texas in april of this yerar, he told me after the surgery that there was undetected tissue that the MRI missed. I have also been seeing a uroligist in North Little Rock for the less eight years and neither of them ever mentioned or suggested a PET Scan. I would like an honest opinion so that i can recieve the best treatment. Tkgs.

PET scan query

posted by Gemma Phillips on 08 Dec 2010 at 11:14 am

Could anyone tell me if a PET scan specialist would know the difference between cancer or T.B by looking at the scan results please? My Aunt has been diagnosed with head and neck cancer recently and was sent for a PET scan to see if it had spread.

She suffered T.B in 2002 and fully recovered. Now the results have come back and they are saying it could be cancer or TB more tests are needed. She's recently had every test under the sun and we are still waiting and waitin for other minor tests and feel like we are getting the 'run around'

Be careful what you say and how you say things to your doctor

posted by Linda on 27 Aug 2011 at 6:15 am

I'm on the list for bariatric surgery and after waiting almost 4 yrs finally saw the surgeon to sign the consent form. She decided I needed a PET scan after I made the mistake of saying I get a little bit of chest tightness (I should have said just out of breath) when I really push myself to walk fast up hill. Anyone in this situation PLEASE be careful what and how you say things to your doctor as it can be misunderstood and in some cases because of lack of facilities to do a PET scan can delay other surgeries by months.

death within 4 months proves mistaken info

posted by B Marler on 24 Nov 2011 at 4:11 pm

Can I assume I am cancer free at this time???? Internist said mass on my lower right lung was cancer xray left little doubt but he order CT scan..it too showed the large mass.he said I'd be dead with 3/4 months but ordered PET scan..it showed NO MASS at all.

Doctor wanted me to get needle biopsy and to go to Moffitt..I did NOTHING since PET was clear... who can I turn to..I made final arrangements with my attorney and told my husband I had 4 months at most..and now

Iam thrilled that Pet was clear..but that DOC surely owes me a call.or explanation..or shud he retire !!!

annihilation

posted by Anthony on 15 Jan 2012 at 6:22 pm

I wonder if the antiparticules in the body of the patient are meeting particules, why then the result of this contact is not an annihilation as we know about the beginning of the conception of Universe? It would lead to an explosion, so I don't understand...

is a PET recommended for patients suffering from the impairment of the kidneys

posted by s on 29 Feb 2012 at 8:14 am

Hi,

My mother has a chronic kidney disease(ADPKD). She is currently suffering from a cystic infection of the kidney. Would a PET scan be recommended(i believe some radioactive material is inserted into the body before that)for her considering that the Kidney is already working 10-15% only.

size cancer cells seen by PET Scan

posted by phyllis on 07 Mar 2012 at 6:02 pm

What size of Cancer Cell Group can be detected with a PET Scan? I have Rectal cancer, and have recently had CT scan and a month later, a PET scan. My Doctors disagree. One said that any Cancer cell could be seen in PET Scan. . The Surgeon Said the PET Scan is useless in determining size and that only a tumor bigger than a centimeter can be seen on pet scan. Mine came back negative for cancer metastasizing, and he does not want to consider the information from the PET scan in treatment. CT was done 3 weeks post Radiation and chaemotherapy. A month later, after I had taken ESSIAC TEA daily, the PET Scan was done. It came back negative. They both Poo Poo any herbal tea and prefer the knife. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer, stage 3, some limited Lymph involvement.

Pet Scan

posted by Jo on 26 Apr 2012 at 5:32 am

I have a pet scan monday. Im nervous. I had to push for a pet scan after i was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed and now its suspected there are lymphnode involvement. I was told i still have cancerous tissue in my body they just dont know where. so i pushed for a pet bc im tired of surgeries that are obviously not getting rid of it. Im also getting night sweats so im not sure if its from unbalanced thyroid lvls or a sign of lymphoma. Most people in my family have died of cll and drs were upset that i pushed for a pet but i want to know where the cancer is and if this is the only one i have. will the scan give me the answers im looking for?
