Sjogren's Syndrome - Sjogren's can and does cause tearing
posted by MMEC on 12 Mar 2010 at 2:23 pm
One important area for DX has been missed: Sjogren's Syndrome. Sjogren's can and does cause tearing. In severe cases, punctal plugs are used, in really severe cases, a minor op to 'close' the tear ducts is done. Sjogren's is an autoimmune condition (often found as a fellow 'with' other autoimmune conditions, i.e. Ankylosing Spondylitis. Many Spondys suffer from Sjogren's.)
Sjogren's 'dries' up mucosal areas of the body : eyes, throat, lungs, nether quarters. The condition needs to be managed, preferably by an immologist or a rheumatologist.

What else could cause one eye to water?
posted by Charlene on 05 Mar 2011 at 11:49 am
I've had ectropion surgery and 3 exams by good eye doctors and an eye plastic surgeon. I'm a psychotherapist and I am tired of clarifying that I'm not crying in my clients sessions. My left eye waters once I go outside and can run for 3 hours until it stops. I wonder if it is related to face moisturizer, though I am careful to keep it away from my eyes. What else can it be?
I'd appreciate any thoughts!
I accepted it!

I am suffering with it since 1997 and had all kinds of treatments for several years. My last attempt also went in vain when Doctors in Germany had operated on with Silicon Tube. Finally I accepted it. I had total 4 surgeries for this purpose, also used Homeopathy & Kerala Ayurvedic treatments.

In my case excessive watering of eyes is caused during change of weather i.e. between Feb to April (India), when I take bath with mild hot water. Can Locula Eye drops stop or minimise the watering of eyes to some extent. Pl. Advice in this regard.. Thanks

excessive eye tearing Bells palsy
posted by sandra on 12 Nov 2011 at 6:54 am
My left eye suddenly developed excessive tearing and this went
on undiagnosed even after complaining of condition to 3 Drs and
Also an optometrist. One morning recently l woke up with swelling and numbness near the fronts of my ears and a noticable change to my face. I went to see a young Dr. and he immediately diagnosed Bells Palsy. I am still undergoing treatment. but gratful that this young man finally addressed the problem. I have been using a eyedrop that has a very thick consistency and it has greatly reduced the excessive tearing.

Feather duvets...
posted by Jenny on 12 Dec 2011 at 5:30 am
I was having so much trouble with my eyes until I got rid of all the feather pillows and duvets in our house - it was getting to the point where I couldn't see at all because my eyes were running so much when I went out in the sun... thankfully it cleared up completely and I won't go near feathers now ;-)
I have also found that when I wear eye-shadow it tends to make my eyes gritty and tired and want to water... so makeup is now used sparingly if at all :-)
Best of luck to you all.
