Arthritis linked to Cipralex?

posted by S Herholdt on 15 July 2005 at 9:46 am

My sister started taking Cipralex and about 2 months later developed chronic arthritis. I suspect that Cipralex might be involved. We have no history of joint problems in our family and she was a very active and athletic person. Within 3 weeks she has become like an old lady. Would be helpful to hear if other people have experience similar "side-effects".

Want to stop Taking Cypralex

posted by Najah on 30 Jun 2006 at 2:40 am

I'm talking cypralex 10 mg 9 months ago after this period I felt better i wanted to stop it. My doctor advised me to decrease it to half a tablet in a day for 15 days then to half a tablet one day yes one day no.

After that when I start to take half tablet in the day I felt my brain shaking many times in the day and I felt my blood pressure went down. I couldn't stand up, I felt tired, no balance, throat became dry, but I didn't take it as before. I keep taking this medicine half tablet because I wanted to stop it but my doctor adivced me to take it as before. I refused, I keep decreasing it to stop it later.

What do you advise me please. I don't want to be addicted to this medicine ???!!!!!!

Cipralex

posted by Holly on 26 Oct 2006 at 1:33 pm

My father has been on and off cipralex for the past year. he went off of it a few weeks ago because my mother could hardly bear his personality when he was on it. He acted like he was drunk....slurring his words, very bad memory, no balance, angry at the smallest things, throwing things around in the house, yelling at the cats for stupid reasons, becoming mad at my mother when she questioned him about his "behaviour", and the list goes on and on. Anyway, he went off of it a few weeks ago and was like a changed man. he was nice again, had a gentle spirit, although felt depressed still....so, of course, he started on it again without the advice of his doctor and is now acting like the ridiculous man he was a during the time before when he was taking it. I can hardly bear living with him. he refuses to believe that he's acting abnormal and says he's feeling better and "alive", but we really hate living with him right now.....the groans and grunts are what really gwet to me! man oh man....

Catch

posted by Cathleen on 14 Dec 2006 at 3:18 pm

I was pleasantly surprised to find another person who had weight gain. Every anti depressant works differently with people, so a patient can lose or gain, depending on how it affects him/her. The most common element I have seen, and experienced, is increased joint pain and a lack of physical centeredness, the type where you don't really want to stand on a ladder and put up lights.

Joint Pains?

posted by Nasim Zehra on 26 Feb 2007 at 2:55 am

My mother has just started Ciprolex two days ago. I have noticed a swelling on her knee and she is complaining of pain in the tail bone. Already she had the pain, but it seems to have been revived with Ciprolex. Do you think the swelling on her knee could have been caused by Ciprolex which she started ONLY two days ago?

Understand sleepiness

posted by Karen on 29 May 2007 at 4:11 pm

I started cipralex about a year ago. I didn't understand it was the reason I suddenly found myself so tierd. I am home with little twins to care for and a home to manage. I was so tierd for about six months that all I could do for a lot of each day was to sit at my kitchen table with my head in my hands stuggling to stay awake. I thought I was tired because I was overwieght. I have gained a lot of wieght on antidepessants. I finally mentioned how I was feeling to my pharmasist one day. She said the medicine was causing the overwhelming sleepiness. She said to try talking the medicine at night instead of the morning. The very next day the extreeme sleepiness was gone and has never come back. Of course the wieght gain is still there.

I am presently trying apupuncture and homeopathic treatment for stress and wieghtloss aid. I am hoping to be able to function with out the cipralex. It's no fun being fat!

Been On It For 2 Months

posted by Leslie on 03 Jun 2007 at 2:40 am

I've been on Cipralex for about 2 months.

I have never been the kind of person who was very prone to vomiting, usually going for decades without being sick to my stomach. However, since I've started Cipralex, I wake up feeling overheated. After shedding some pajamas, thinking that they are to blame...I get this overwhelming dizziness, which is when I know something is wrong. Moments later I get this unbearable nausea...and I mean...UNBEARABLE. This is unlike any 'stomach flu' nausea. I feel as if I am about to pass out, and that I am slipping in and out of my body. This usually calms down to just a panic attack but only for a moment, before the nausea gets even more unbearable, before I eventually get sick.

I have also noticed an increase in appetite, and a serious decrease in the want for sexual intercourse.

After reading this blog I have decided I am going to begin to wean myself off of this medicine.

Should I Take?

posted by Tina on 14 July 2007 at 10:43 pm

My Dr has perscribed Cipralex 10mg for me. He has advised me to only take 5mg a day. After reading everyone's inputs I am not so sure that I want to take this.
My real question is....did it work for anyone?
Thank you

Cipralex

posted by Leah on 03 Oct 2007 at 10:31 am

I have been on this pill for well over a year now, I have noticed there are times when I REALLY need to take them, and I feel relieved when I do. I started taking them to relax, stop my mind from constantly racing and dwelling on things that seem unimportant to others, but they were so important to me I couldnt sleep at night, I was snappy, moody...a miserable person!! Being depressed, having panic attacks when out in public.

Since i started taking the pill, I sleep awesome. But I have gained weight, I still get attacks but not as bad. I Literally Have ZERO sex life, which has affected my relationship with my boyfriend, whom I have been with for 8 years this January. I used to enjoy everything a bit more. Now I have no interest and no enjoyment from it. I also have broken about 8 fingers in my life, and the knuckles is whats the worst.

I find I do get arthritis quite a bit, but nothing more so then When I wasnt on the pill. So, the pill hasn't affected me in that way! After learning about everyone else's problems and feeling I'm not alone with it anymore, I believe I am going to slowly wean myself off.

After speaking to my doctor. I feel better, not a 100% but the weight i have gained isn't doing me good, and the lack of the sex life I know will eventually take its toll on my spouse.

Cipralex

posted by GG anon on 06 Oct 2007 at 10:20 pm

I have been on Cipralex for g months, 30mg a day.
It brought me out of a major depression without
any signficant side effects at first. I lost 20lbs before
treatment and have gained 50 since then. I have no
libido and I am in the process of changing to Welbutrin
for that reason. The present state of mental health beats
depression by a long shot. Hopefully Welbutrin will be
better for my libido and my weight.

Cipralex Discomfort

posted by mitaka on 07 Nov 2007 at 12:27 am

the side effects most posters here are describing are very uncommon and somewhat unlikely. I think you should consider whether these sensations you're experiencing aren't part of the illness, and aren't made up. Bare in mind that panic disorder is very tricky and it makes hard distinguishing between real health conditions and symptoms of panic attack.

I've been taking cipralex for 6 months now (getting off it now) and no side efects whatsoever. For god's sake, it doesnt even interact with booze! If you're feeling unwell, it's most likely because of your illness rather than the medicine, be convinced. And bear in mind you'll be needing 2-3-4 weeks to experience the benefit of the drug. Anyways, joint pains and sluggish movement because of SSRI's sounds absolutely hillarious to me and medically unexplainable.
