Ezetrol contra statines

posted by Eduard J. Abendanon on 25 Oct 2005 at 1:24 pm

Since 2000 I've been prescribed a statin to lower my cholesterol level. Two years later I couldn't walk for prolonged time and in general suffered severe musclepains in both legs. Finally after several 'second opinions' one doctor was so clever to look into the effects of the statine and stopped this medication. Last year I was prescribed the Ezetrol therapy. Results are great but my fear is what kind of effects can it give in the long term. The medicin is now 2 years widly prescribed and perhaps research has been done on these effects. Any idea - please let me know. I'll be most gratefull

Best regards,

Eduard Abendanon

Ezetrol - Side Effects

posted by bob on 09 Jun 2006 at 6:09 pm

I had been taking Ezetrol for about 6 months, but I after a few months I started to become constipated in an unusual way - it seemed as if balls of processed food were sticking to my large intestine (if I took laxatives, other food would pass by). I literally had to massage them free to gain relief on numerous occassions. This stopped when I stopped taking the medication. It seems as if in the bowel was absorbing more water from the stools for some reason.

Why Ezetrol ?

posted by Ludmila De Mello on 18 July 2006 at 3:59 am

I'm 59 - female. My cholesterol: 7.5; spasms with statins-discontinued; recently started taking Ezetrol and ever since I have been constantly ferociously constipated - (20 years ago 80 cm of my intestine surgically taken out - adhesions); also have been experiencing unusual, lightning-like pain around hand and feet(finger and toe) bones. GP recommended me to take ezetrol with panadol! Now I feel really sick...

Co Q10

posted by anon on 21 Feb 2007 at 6:52 pm

I had 3 by-pass in 2003. My problem is auricular fibrillation. My pulse is very irregular. I take every day : Coumadin one mg, Lanoxin 0.25, Metoprolol (50mg morning and 50mg evening). I also take Lipitor 20 mg. before going to bed. Would CoQ10 be beneficial for me? Thanks for your opinion. I am a woman, aged 79.

I feel very weak in the morning but the rest of the day is not bad. I rarely go out because I have shortness of breath and have to stop often when walking..

Ezetrol (Ezetimibe Tablets)

posted by Kingsway3030 on 19 May 2007 at 5:50 am

Six Months ago, I broke out in an itchy condition all over my body. It was not Hives and did not have any rash associated with the itching.
It was similar to having several hundred insect bites. The itching was preventing me from sleeping at night and was driving me insane. I tryed lotions, changing cloth materials, sheets, soaps, washing powders all to no avail. A chance conversation with my chemist resulted in me not taking my nightly tablet that night.
Just by missing this one tablet I had the first nights sleep in six months

Tahore

posted by Anon on 29 May 2007 at 1:12 am

Having been treated with Tahore over a long period, I suddenly got severe pain in both heels, diagnosed as tendinitis. Afew days later II ruptured the Achilles tendon of the left foot;,& had a walking plaster for 3 weeks. This was in January last . My foot is still still stiff , and although it is no longer painful, walking is difficult, (I can just about do the house work & do the shopping.) I now take Ezetrol, and as I already suffer from"rheumatic pains" these have become worse; Is there a connection? I also wonder if tests before these drugs go on the market are fiable.

Ezetrol And Itching

posted by Denfos on 11 July 2009 at 4:56 am

Hi,my husband is 64 years old and has been put on Ezetrol since 8 months now and since them he has experienced itching in the eyes and face and it's driving him and me crazy. Since then he has been to a Dermatologist that has prescribe pills and cream for the face and lotion for the eyes......but that did not help.

So we started to think when this all began and we discover it all began with Ezetrol.... So since a few days ...the itching is practically gone..........so i guess he will go back to Lipitor which he had before for 4 years.

Hope these comments will help

Ezetrol Tablets

posted by Anon on 03 Nov 2009 at 1:18 am

I have just been prescribed Ezetrol for my cholesterol of 10.20!! I'ts high because I've tried 6 other types of tablets and had bruising 3 times and muscular myopethy twice and have discontinued medication for a few years. The comments I'm reading are not giving me any hope that ezetrol will be any better for me. Does anyone really know what they are doing to people with these drugs. Turning healthy people into paranoid patients.

Constipation With Ezetrol

posted by Carole on 19 Dec 2009 at 2:56 am

I have always had problems with constipation and like you couldn't take statin drugs which effected my liver causing aching arms etc. Ezetrol seems to be ok for me although I have been on it for a few years now and am starting to get aching arms and unable to lift too much with my arms, which was how I was with Statins. Anyhow I have found that drinking a pot of green tea a day has helped my constipation considerably and I have stopped taking a heap of prunes or prune juice everyday and have also been able to eat something other than allbran for breakfast. My main problem is unbelievable tiredness which I am consulting my cardiologist about next week.

Ezetrol Tablets

posted by Anon on 19 Mar 2010 at 2:50 am

I tried ezetrol for cholesterol after being nagged by my doctor. I have had severe muscle weakness and pain and bruising previously with other cholesterol drugs and didn't want to try any other drugs. After only 3 days on half dosage I experienced muscle pain and weakness. I stopped taking the ezetrol and 3 weeks later I am still having some pain. I will never take cholesterol drugs again.

Ezetrol

posted by Richard on 02 May 2010 at 12:11 pm

I have been on these tablets for approx 2 years to lower my cholesterol, and have been suffering from dry, itching, flakey skin- hands, legs, back, everywhere. There are even scabs forming on my scalp, which isn't good news. I have seen a dermotologist several times, but she hasn't offered any solution. Is my skin condition anything to do with taking the tablets? Should I insist on changing the tablets?
Has anyone else suffered the same way?

Ezetrol Side Effect

posted by Richard on 19 May 2010 at 7:44 am

I started taking ezetrol recently, I became hyped up like as if I was on a caffeine drip I couldn't sleep at all without valium. I stopped taking the drug after about six doses .I am on 80mg of pravacol a day without side effects. Interestingly my doctor hasn't asked me about my diet, which is less than ideal to lower cholesterol.

Ezetrol For Cholesterol

posted by andy bolton on 10 Jun 2010 at 2:57 am

Statin intolerant, simvstatin caused loss ability to walk, muscle pain etc. Three months on ezetrol and major tiredness, ridiculously so. Up for two hours and asleep again . Muscle weakness back pain and most worryingly of all severe depression.

Visited the doctor and immediately told to come off, apparently these symptoms are known about!

Statins and derivatives are to be taken very very carefully..if at all.

Which Is Best? - Any Other

posted by Superdraft on 19 July 2010 at 1:54 am

I have been prescribed Ezetimibe 10 mg to be taken with a reduced Lipitor (20mg down to 10mg). I don't like statins anyway.I am concerned about the side effects. My total cholesterol is 4.1 . I wanted to go off all cholesterol drugs for a while to see if my pains are caused by these. But, I don't want to see my levels go too high. Does anyone know how fast cholesterol levels rise?

Ezetimibe 10 Mg Nasty One.

posted by Skye Rigby on 24 July 2010 at 5:28 pm

I have Chronic Coronary Artery Disease I am a woman of 49 who looks 40, so I have taken good care of myself. I have been on Ezetimibe 10 mg for as long as i can remember, taking it of a night so if there was any side effects i would sleep them away.

I am now in a dilema my feet and ankles are swollen 24/7 and I get like a shooting pain through my legs and this past three weeks my hand have ached along with my fingers, I find i wake up with the pain and I have to massage my hands fingers and elbow it is a 9 pain. I have been told This is caused by Liver or Heart and my liver on a scale of 10 being the worst is at a 7. So te good Dr has sent a letter to the specialist. I am no longer going to take Ezetimibe 10 mg as they have never checked my blood to check on the cell count and i have a nagging feeling that this trouble i am having with my ankles and feet being swollen and my hands and fingers aching is to do with the fact that i have been on Ezetimibe 10 mg for so long. I have always taken supplements (Natural) and have lived longer than I was supposed to I put this down to my supplements but I am of Ezetimibe and will go back on Lipitor I think. When you are Terminally ill they do let you have a bigger say in you medications. Me I cant afford the circulation socks and stockings, so I may now just look for an alternative Cholestral lowering tablet Bioglan is very good. I think personally this tablet is doing more harm to people than good. And i am not normally wrong about these things.

EZETROL 10mg YES Or No.

posted by Peter C. Harz on 09 Aug 2010 at 12:46 pm

Total cholesterol 5.4; LDL 3.4. EZETROL 10mg has been proposed to lower LDL hopefully by @15% or to @2.9 and taken
in partnership with 10mg CRESTOR (Satin).

From what I could learn of this fantastic site, I like to thank all your respondents making the patients case against Ezetrol not only in the short, but olso for the long run.

Your feedback surely indicates that 'questionable' results make for a poor ratio for risk/benefit, but mainly putting patient's health at stake. Thank you, BUT NO THANK YOU!!!

I had been on ezetrol for years developed flaky skin on feet and hands and face hands so bad they would crack and split very painful. Dermotologist told me it was a contact dermatitis, avoided contact powders in work and used cortisone cream, no change whatsoever. I developed a bowel problem and stopped taking ezetrol almost overnight everything cleared up hands feet face back to normal

Ezetrol........A Poison!

posted by seranne on 31 Aug 2010 at 2:44 am

I have just come off Ezetrol. At the beginning of the year I suffered a terrible bout of vertigo. A neurologist said all my symptoms didn't tie in and I left feeling a hypercondriac. The aching legs, stiff knees, extreme fatigue and breathlessness I put down to the after effects of the vertigo. I hardly moved for weeks and thought it was lack of exercise.I now think maybe that the Ezetrol side effects got mixed up with the vertigo

The skin itching was driving me mad. Well I decided it's unusual to have problems in both knees and legs at the same time, varicose veins, thrombosis etc. Within two days of coming off Ezetrol I could stretch my legs out in bed. Within a couple of more days I spent 6 hours gardening. The itching took longer to go. After two weeks when all the side effects had gone I went back on the medication. Three days later during a day out I suddenly felt drained of energy, my legs started to ache and the dreadful itching started again.

I am now off the tablets again but the itching is persisting a week later.Very tiny white spots erupt on my skin and I feel a burning on my face.Statins are a no go for me so it's worrying, heart disease is a family problem but then I feel Ezetrol is a poison!

I kept dropping things all the time also.Has anyone noticed that?

Are the doctors getting a kickback from the drug industry for pushing this stuff? because they sure do nag at you to take it

Terrible Leg Pain...

posted by Ariel on 15 Aug 2011 at 2:16 pm

I was prescribed Ezetrol - 10mg daily - in early 2010. About four days after beginning the medication, I experienced the most excruciating pain in my thighs. After walking a half block, I was in so much pain (like a hot poker was being held against my thigh muscles, with surface skin numbness...very wierd) I had to stop and sit down on a stone wall (this is in the dead of winter), while I dug out my cell phone and put it on fast-dial to 911 as I was terrified by the severity of the pain. After resting about ten minutes, the pain subsided somewhat and I managed to drag myself home to call my family doc. I went to see her next day and she cut my dosage in half, to 5mg. The severe leg pain stopped within two days but I still had the numb feeling and that has continued. Now, a year and half later, I am again experiencing burning pain in my thigh muscles, though not as severe as the original experience on 10mg. I stopped taking Ezetrol altogether for three days, and lo and behold, the pain completely subsided! Am seeing my doctor in two days to see if I can get another cholesterol med prescribed. Most, unfortunately, are off limits for me as I am operating on one kidney only. It is very frustrating...perhaps this is a case of the cure being worse than the disease. Ugh!!

I Am Also Having Ezetrol Issues

posted by Andy N on 20 Feb 2012 at 7:24 pm

Have been on Lipitor for 9 years, cardiologist started me on ezetrol in October 2011. Had no side effects until recently. Have neck and shoulder pain, comes and goes. Also a weird weakening of my legs from knees down. Feels like i just walked 20 flights of stairs. I managed to beat the insomnia by taking meds 1 hour after dinner ( before 7pm) instead of before bedtime. I'm going to try lower dose of ezetrol and see if that helps. Need to do blood work soon, so will follow up with Cariologist after that.
