This week sees the launch of Bioscience Horizons, a unique peer-reviewed journal comprising entirely of the very best undergraduate bioscience research in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Bioscience Horizons (http://www.biohorizons.oxfordjournals.org/) is the result of a collaboration between the universities of Leeds, Nottingham, Reading, Chester and Trinity College Dublin.

It aims to provide a forum for the brightest undergraduates in the UK and Ireland to publish their research and for supervisors and universities to highlight the quality of their learning and teaching activities. Published twice a year following a rigorous peer-review process, it will feature research drawn from throughout the biological sciences, from molecular biology to ecology and biomedical science.

Bioscience Horizons is published by Oxford Journals in conjunction with Oxford University Press' Higher Education department, and has been supported by a grant from the University of Leeds for its first year.

Dr Celia Knight, Chair of the journal's editorial board, says: "Research projects are a key element of undergraduate study and lie at the heart of the link between research and teaching in universities. Bioscience Horizons aims to strengthen this link by showing the skills and standards that undergraduates can achieve in their projects. We hope that students, teachers, bioscientists and employers will find it a useful and inspiring teaching, learning and research resource."

Jonathan Crowe, Science Publisher in OUP's Higher Education Department, added: "We are delighted to be a part of this novel way of encouraging students to put important research skills into practice - and to recognise students' achievement in doing so."
