Pharmacies are invited to register before 30 June 2008 for the Patient Medication Profile (PMP) Program to receive maximum registration payment of $1,200. This Program is the next professional pharmacy service to roll-out as a part of the Better Community Health Initiative of the Fourth Community Pharmacy Agreement.
The Program, which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and delivered in partnership between the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA), will provide eligible patients with a comprehensive profile or list of all of the medicines they are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter and complementary medicines.
"The PMP Program integrates with other professional pharmacy services such as the DAA and HMR Programs as well as the provision of CMI. It provides the patient with tools to actively manage their medicines. It also provides the patient's healthcare providers with tools to assist with effective communication," National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Kos Sclavos said today.
Participating pharmacies will be eligible for incentive payments of up to $4,200 for early registration and full participation in the first phase of the Program, and will be required to undertake training provided by the PSA.
"It is anticipated that the majority of community pharmacies will be involved in this program. For this reason, the training which has been developed is flexible, interactive and complements the existing program support materials," said National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, Brian Grogan.
Community pharmacies will soon receive a Pharmacy Readiness Kit (PRK) in the post which outlines all of the steps required to fully participate. These include:
Registering with the Department online at http://www.health.gov.au/daapmp.
Completing the PMP Training and Assessment program. Details can be found on the Fourth Community Pharmacy Agreement section of the PSA website (http://www.psa.org.au/4CPA).
Reading the PRK which includes other important information to assist in setting up the Program and promoting it in the local area.
DAA Program update: Pharmacies are also encouraged to submit Baseline Evaluation Data online at http://www.health.gov.au/daapmp before 30 June to receive maximum incentive payment of $1,900.
