The National Federation of Independent Business last week in Washington, D.C., launched a new advertising campaign that focuses on the cost of health insurance for small businesses, CQ HealthBeat reports.

The campaign, titled "Solutions Start Here," includes ads on four local radio stations and in local print publications focused on politics, as well as ads scheduled to appear online this week. The ads state that small-business owners and employees, or their dependents, account for more than half of uninsured U.S. residents. In addition, the campaign includes forums in Washington, D.C., with health care experts and discussions nationwide with small-business owners and employees.

According to NFIB, small businesses pay 18% more for health insurance premiums and spend a larger percentage of their payroll on health care than larger companies. NFIB President Todd Stottlemyer said that the campaign seeks to "communicate to lawmakers that small businesses need access to affordable health care options" (Straus, CQ HealthBeat, 5/10).
