Hemant Patel, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, has named Professor David Taylor as winner of this year's Synergy Award. The award is given by the President to recognise a person who is not a pharmacist but who has made an outstanding contribution to the pharmacy profession.
Professor Taylor is Professor of Pharmaceutical and Public Health Policy at The School of Pharmacy, University of London and Chair of Camden and Islington (NHS) Mental Health and Social Care Trust. David has also been on the Department of Health's Medicines Management Advisory Group, and served as a member of the joint DTI/DH Advisory Group on the Reform of NHS Pharmaceutical Services.
Professor Taylor's previous posts include Associate Director of Health Studies at the Audit Commission for England and Wales, a King's Fund Fellowship, and Director of Public and Economic Affairs at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. He has also published extensively on issues relating to health and health care.
Speaking of the winner, President Hemant Patel said:
"It's a great pleasure to name Professor David Taylor as this year's Synergy Award winner. Professor Taylor often professes to have no profession, but all his life he has continued to understand and improve health and social care, and the development and use of medicines. This award is made in tribute to Professor Taylor's huge contribution to pharmacy and healthcare in this country."
The presentation will take place during the Society's AGM which is being held on Wednesday 21 May in the main conference suite at the Society's London offices, 1 Lambeth High Street SE1 7JN.
