University Of Southern California Graduate Elected National President Of American Medical Student Association

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the nation's largest, independent medical student organization, today announces that Brian Hurley, MD, MBA has been elected its National President. Hurley graduated this month from the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine and Marshall School of Business with a dual MD/MBA degree.
"I am incredibly excited looking at the year ahead," says Hurley. "This is an exciting time to be a physician-in-training in the United States, with student debt relief, eliminating pharmaceutical marketing, healthcare workforce diversity, fighting global AIDS, equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans and many other issues at the forefront of the national dialogue. I am honored to lead AMSA as it advocates on behalf of all medical students on each of these issues."
Hurley is a native of Los Angeles, Calif. He holds a baccalaureate degree in biochemistry and neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles. This past year, Hurley served as AMSA's National Vice President.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Hurley this year," says Dr. Carol Williams-Nickelson, PsyD, AMSA executive director. "He brings tremendous vision, energy, creativity and passion to the national presidency and will ensure that AMSA is at the center of every important national dialogue related to healthcare and the training of physicians."

- Vice President for Programming: Paige Hatcher, University of Kansas, Wichita
- Secretary: John Brockman, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland
- Alumni & Resident Trustee: Teresa Everson, MD, Oregon Health & Science University Family Medicine
- International Trustee: Norman Priest, International University of the Health Sciences
