The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) announces the release of The ASCP Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual for Assisted Living. The announcement was made by ASCP President Lee Meyer, PharmD, CGP, during the Opening General Session at Geriatrics '08, ASCP's 30th Midyear Conference and Exhibition, held last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The ASCP Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual for Assisted Living is a clear and concise guide on all aspects of pharmacy services that are essential to ensuring quality of care. This product includes a fully searchable CD with modifiable policies and procedures to meet the specific needs of individual assisted living communities and state laws and regulations.

The manual delineates functions and responsibilities of individuals involved with the medication-use process including: medication ordering, receipt, and delivery; medication administration; and, medication packaging, storage, and disposal. It is designed to help pharmacists and assisted living staff safely and effectively meet the medication management challenges and varying needs of assisted living residents; from those who manage their own medications but need some assistance with administration, to those who are completely dependent on staff to provide, manage, and administer medications.

"If you are a pharmacy owner or manager who currently provides, or is planning to provide, pharmacy services to assisted living communities, this manual is for you," stated ASCP President Lee Meyer. "It is the standard for medication management services in assisted living," he added.

The ASCP Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual for Assisted Living, product #A97147, may be ordered from MED-PASS. Customization, fulfillment services, and volume discounts are available.
