FISH Vs. Cytology In Post-Cystectomy Tumor Surveillance

ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - This group of authors from San Francisco attempted to push the envelope for the use of FISH in clinical practice.

In this study, FISH falls short when used to screen upper tracts in patients following cystectomy (both continent and non-continent diversions).

When compared to traditional cytology, not only was FISH less sensitive (33% vs 67%) when compared to cytology, but 22% of patients did not have the sufficient cells in the urine specimen for FISH to be performed.

No go FISH.
