"The physicians of America are outraged that a group of Republican senators followed the direction of the Bush Administration and voted to protect health insurance companies at the expense of America's seniors, disabled and military families.
"These senators leave for their 4th of July picnics knowing that the most vulnerable Americans are at risk because of the Senate's inability to act to stop drastic payment cuts for health care services that are needed by our Medicare and TRICARE patients.
"The House voted to preserve access to care for Medicare patients in a bipartisan landslide vote to pass H.R. 6331 by an overwhelming margin of 355 to 59. The House made seniors, the disabled and military families a top priority. The AMA appreciates the courage of the 59 Senators, including nine Republicans, who voted to put patients ahead of partisan politics and vote for H.R. 6331.
"Today, thanks to some senators, we stand at the brink of a Medicare meltdown. On July 1 - just four days from now - the government will slash Medicare physician payments by 10.6 percent, forcing many physicians to make the difficult choice to limit the number of Medicare patients in their practices. "The Senate must return from their recess and make seniors' health care their top priority. For doctors, this is not a partisan issue - it's a patient access issue."

What Will Happen To Me?
posted by Janet Hawkins on 27 Jun 2008 at 2:01 pmI am a single 56 year old working female. Probably don't have all that many working years left. What will happen to me? I have watched both my parents struggle to survive on their small retirement and SS. I have concluded the the Spotted Owl, the Salmon and certain tress will fair better than me. The government allots huge dollars for a war and other assorted special interest group "pet projects" and I can't wait for the trickle down effect on those of us hoping to retire. Shame on our elected officials. Even bigger shame on allowing lobbyists to pad the pockets of those who will swing the vote for the life style of the rich and wealthy insurance industry. When the CEO of Blue Cross a number of years ago can give himself a two million dollare annual raise the company has to do something to cover that.
Begining Of The End
posted by george R Blanck on 30 Jun 2008 at 3:57 amThe federal government is attempting to place all seniors in HMO type plans so that our medical care is dictated by insurance companies. It is voluntary now and has been soundly rejected by an overwhelmingly number of seniors. They (Fed Govt.) then reimbursed the insurance companies (HMO) more than they pay (on an average) directly to your own chosen physicians. This latest trick is to push more seniors into HMO'S. When this is completed they will stop medicarre as we know it and we will all have to rely on insurance companies to select our physicians and then how much we pay for it. This system (medicare) works and it is less expensive than the govt pays HMO's Don't destroy it because it is a good model for a future national health insurance.
