ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - The moderated poster session covering neurogenic bladder included a broad range of interesting presentations, starting with Drs. Long and Chancellor's work that showed that the bladder wall responds to stretch stimuli with an up-regulation of the extracellular matrix, in particular elastin and collagen, and alteration of cell phenotype.

These findings, seen in ex vivo organ culture, suggest a potential for tissue engineering of functional bladder wall for bladder replacement therapies.
