ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - Several concepts regarding potential treatment alternatives for neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) were presented.

Arginase inhibition was shown to suppress DO in rats with SCI by the Pittsburgh group (Abstract #1015).

Another report from France suggested the potential for ATP-sensitive potassium channel (KATP) openers for treatment of NDO (Abstract #1023). This was based on their findings that spontaneous phasic contractions in NDO were modulated by potassium rather than calcium channels, the latter of which has been shown to play a role in patients with idiopathic overactive bladder and normal controls.
