fpa Reacts To BMJ Research On Parents Talking To Their Children About Sexual Health, UK

In response to research by the British Medical Journal on American research evaluating the outcomes of Talking Parents, Healthy Teens concerning parents talking to their children about sexual health, Julie Bentley, Chief Executive of fpa said:

"This is very similar to the positive effects we see from our parents course Speakeasy.

"The importance of parents cannot be underestimated. Parents can tip the balance of their children's sexual health from bad to good.

"Children and young people want their parents to talk to them about sex and relationships. We also know parents are deeply concerned about this part of their child's life but about half of families don't talk about it at all.

"Feeling embarrassed, not knowing where to start and a lack of confidence can inhibit parents from raising the issue. It's essential that parents do start talking though, once they begin they'll start seeing some of the benefits highlighted in this study."
