American Dental Hygienists' Association Announces 2008-2009 Leadership

Diann Bomkamp, RDH, BSDH, of St. Louis, Mo., was inaugurated as the 2008-2009 president of the Chicago-based American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) on June 24, 2008, at the association's 85th Annual Session held in Albuquerque, N.M.

"It is truly an honor to serve as ADHA president at such a unique time for the association and the profession of dental hygiene," Bomkamp said. "It is a unique opportunity to oversee year two of the ADHA branding initiative as well as the many advancements of the profession just over the horizon. With the recent successes of many states in their access to care efforts, now is the perfect time to continue the search for new and equitable solutions to the access to care crisis which our country faces."

Bomkamp has served in numerous positions within ADHA including as a delegate and alternate delegate, District VIII trustee, as the chair of the Council on Regulation and Practice, vice president, and most recently, as president-elect . She also served on the Future of Dental Hygiene Licensure/Regulation Subcommittee as well as a number of other positions.

Her dedication to the dental hygiene profession has earned her a number of awards and recognitions including the ADHA/Warner Lambert Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award in 1992, the Marquette University Outstanding Dental Hygiene Alumna awards in 1993, the ADHA Alfred C. Fones Award in 2001, as well as seven Missouri Dental Hygienists' Association awards.

Bomkamp succeeds Jean Connor, RDH, of Cambridge, Mass., as president. Connor remains an ADHA officer as immediate past president as well as the 2008-2009 chair of ADHA Institute for Oral Health.

Additional ADHA officers installed at the annual session include: Lynn M. Ramer, LDH, of Logansport, Ind., president-elect, Caryn Solie, RDH, Sparks, Nev., vice president. Remaining in their positions are Speaker of the House Kimberly Hickman-Bowen, RDH, BSDH, MA, Middleton, Del., and Treasurer Hope Garza, RDH, BS, Houston, Texas.

The newly installed district trustees for 2008-2009 are as follows: Dinah G. Auger, RDH, BS, of Norwich, Conn., District II (Conn., N.J., N.Y., Pa.); Norine Ryan Dowd, RDH, BHSc, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., District IV (Fla., Ga., N.C., S.C.); Victoria E. Richards, RDH, BS, of Nashville, Tenn., District VI (Ala., Ark., La., Miss., Tenn.); Carole F. Danielson, RDH, MPH, of Worth, Ill., District VIII (Ill., Iowa, Kan., Mo., Neb.)

Re-elected district trustees for 2008-2009 are as follows: Laurie K. Ghigleri, BS, RDH, of Colorado Springs, Colo., District X (Colo. Mont., Utah, Wyo.); and Susan Savage, RDH, BSDH, of Ellinsburg, Wash., District XII (Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Nev., Ore., Wash.).

District trustees continuing their term for 2008-2009 are as follows: Beverley C. Litchfield, RDH, BS, EdD, of Scarborough, Maine, District I (Maine, Mass., N.H., R.I., Vt.); Pamela L. Quinones, RDH, BS, of Rockville, Md., District III (Del., District of Columbia., Md., Va., W.Va.); Denise E. Bowers, RDH, MEd, of Lima, Ohio, District V (Ind., Ky., Mich., Ohio); Linda M. Jorgenson, RDH, BS, of River Falls, Wis., District VII (Minn., N.D., S.D., Wis.); Bonnie Flanagan, RDH, of Tulsa, Okla., District IX (N.M., Okla., Texas); Catherine Kelly Draper, RDH, MS, San Jose, Calif., District XI (Ariz., Calif.).

ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of the more than 150,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.
